Today, June 12, 2010 marks the 111st Independence Day of the Philippine Republic ! So, cheers to our freedom and have a happy independence party to all my fellow kababayans out there and lets celebrate it with pride wherever you are!  But please be reminded that as we celebrate another milestone in our history, let us also remember some of our beloved countrymen who unselfishly fought for our Philippine Independence and how they shaped our history to ensure that the Philippine freedom will be rightfully celebrated! Mabuhay ang Republika ng Pilipinas!

We were walking down while roaming around along the sidewalk of Opol, Misamis Oriental when we saw these Philippine Flags waving around the town. It is because we are celebrating Independence Day which is a  national holiday observed every June 12, in commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. It is the National Day of the Philippines. President Diosdado Macapagal signed into law Republic Act No. 4166 designating June 12 as the country's Independence Day. June 12 had previously been observed as Flag Day. This is my historical entry for Ruby Tuesday

Today is special non-working holiday here in our country because we pay tribute and respect to our dear Beloved President Corazon Aquino's burial. Though I was still a baby yet when the EDSA People Power 1 happened, I just feel my fellow citizens patriotism and fight for democracy when I saw earlier on tv how the Filipino love and supported a simple housewife who became the very 1st Philippine President way back in 1986. The Late President Cory Aquino fight and restored back our country's democracy while she is able to step down Marcos dictatorship. I was just so amazed and inspired by her life, not only to her but also to her late Senator husband Ninoy Aquino who has been assassinated during Marcos regime. Both of them fight for the right just for the sake of the Filipino people. Just imagine risking your own life just for your country's freedom and democracy.
